George's Story

I am LGBTQ+ Champion at Response!

“Hi I'm George (he/him) and I am a Wellbeing Youth Worker at Response. My mission is to create safe & fun spaces for students within their school settings. I am part of the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and our goal is to listen carefully to the lived experiences, concerns, and feedback of the children and young people we work with, so they can live their lives to the fullest. Also, as the LGBTQ+ Champion at Response,  I am setting up Pride clubs in schools across Oxford.”

Working in Mental Health

Working in mental health has major advantages. I have received loads of training and information about wellbeing, have learnt about mindfulness, and have other techniques which I can use myself when I experience wellbeing issues! I've also learnt so much from other colleagues and the young people I work with. Mental health is also a nonstop developing field, so there will always be something new to discover and keep your enthusiasm and curiosity flowing.”

I have been able to pursue a passion

Response has given me the opportunity to be my authentic self, collaborate with a team which is incredibly funny, caring and open, and work with students, primarily from the LGBT+ community, which was one of my biggest dreams! .”
