Chris has a deep and long-standing interest in the governance of voluntary organisations.

Chris was Professor of Organisational Governance and Management at the Open University Business School where he helped set up a management programme for people working in the voluntary sector. His research helped break new ground in understanding the behaviour of boards and their relations with senior managers. He has served on a number of boards, including Oxford Citizens’ Housing Association, and most recently as trustee of the Association of Chairs, that provides support to the Chairs of charities and other voluntary organisations.

He knows from family and personal experience how challenging mental health problems can be, and how important the services of organisations like Response are. He is keen to use his experience and expertise to contribute to the successful development of Response and the vital services it provides.

Chris has lived with his family in East Oxford for many years. In his spare time he enjoys cycling, gardening, reading, getting out into the countryside and helping to look after his granddaughter. He has undertaken a number of long-distance rides including cycling the length of France and Portugal.
