Carramar House is Response’s 24-hour supported housing service in Berkshire, run in partnership with Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust. It provides a safe and structured environment for adults who need continued high-level support following long stays on acute psychiatric or rehabilitation wards.
Our recovery-focused approach helps residents develop greater independence in a community setting. With personalised support, we empower individuals to build life skills, manage their mental health, and work towards their personal goals.
At Carramar House, our dedicated team provides one-to-one support, encourages meaningful activity, and offers guidance on financial management, daily living skills, and overall wellbeing. We work closely with external agencies to ensure the best possible care while maintaining a person-centred approach that respects residents’ choices and promotes self-determination
Service information
Carramar House supports individuals in developing the skills and confidence needed to transition towards independent living. Our team provides personalised assistance with daily activities, mental and physical health management, and emotional wellbeing. We encourage residents to engage in meaningful activities, build social connections, and develop practical life skills, fostering greater independence in a supportive community environment.
Residents enjoy a variety of activities that foster social interaction and personal growth.
Activities include:
- Day trips.
- Music groups.
- Seated exercises.
- Movie nights, Quiz/games nights.
- Gardening and Badminton.
- We also have visits from Eight Bells Charity which offers befriending services, and the Edu Cafe, which has a community kitchen.
Support includes:
- Supporting residents around meaningful activity.
- Encouragement and support to better manage their Mental Health.
- One to one support in all areas with a named worker.
- Support to learn life skills.
- Support around managing their money (if applicable).
- Individualised Support Plans.
- WRAP Plans completed with residents.
Carramar House provides comfortable and well-equipped accommodation in a safe and welcoming environment. The service offers single bedrooms, each designed to support residents’ recovery and independence. Residents also have access to shared communal spaces, including a cosy living area, dining room, and garden, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

FAQs
Adults with serious mental health challenges. Those who may not yet be ready for independent living. Carramar offers a two-year tenancy to support recovery, living skills, and developing the confidence to move into the community independently.
The Carramar team will aim to enable an individual to move on to more independent living arrangements within two years, but there is flexibility depending on the needs of the individual.
Referrals and applications to this service will be made directly to the service management team by social care services and acute hospital ward staff, however any enquires regarding placements at Carramar House can also be sent to Suzanna.Loveridge@response.org.uk and Joanne.Gillyon@response.org.uk
All meal preparation is planned and managed by both individuals living at the service and the staff team. All individual dietary requirements can be supported and the people we support are encouraged to develop a meal plan that is suitable to their cultural and nutritional needs.
Due to the communal living arrangements at Carramar, pets for individuals cannot be accepted on referral.
WiFi is available throughout the service and is paid for collectively by all of the individuals being supported, meaning there is only a small charge per person.
Smoking in the building or within individual living spaces is not permitted. Response is committed to creating a smoke free environment in all of its services, for both staff and the people we support, to enjoy clean air when indoors. There are however external smoking areas that can be used.
