Jeremy's Story
Jeremy's Story: How one-to-one support helped him when school felt unsafe
Life before Response
Jeremy is 15 and autistic. Before coming to Response, school had stopped feeling like a safe place for him. He was being bullied, taunted and excluded. Despite his parents' repeated pleas for help, nothing changed. The bullying continued, and Jeremy's confidence began to crumble. He started refusing to go in, terrified of what might happen next. Eventually, his parents made the painful decision to pull him out of school altogether.
Finding Support with Response
By the time Jeremy was referred to Response’s Wellbeing Hub in Thatcham, he had become increasingly withdrawn and was experiencing thoughts of self-harm. The world felt small and unsafe.
Since then, he’s been supported through weekly one-to-one sessions with our Wellbeing Youth Worker.
Together, they’ve been working to rebuild his confidence, helping him find ways to manage his anxiety and rediscover the things that make him feel good about himself. His parents are now searching for a new school where he can feel safe, understood, and able to thrive.
