HRH The Duchess of Gloucestershire officially opened a new mental health service at The Priory in Thatcham on Wednesday 27th February.

The building which was formerly empty had a complete refurbishment that was fundraised and carried out by Response, a mental health charity based in Oxford, in partnership with Berkshire Health Foundation Trust and Thatcham Town Council. The beautiful Grade II listed building has been given a new lease of life and is now the home for 10 new residents.

The home is for people who have been unable to leave hospital for some time because there was nowhere suitable for them to move to. This new service (called Carramar at the Priory) provides just this and with the support of Response staff they can now live in the community and hopefully one day move to their own independent living accommodation.

John McLaughlin, CEO of Response said

Carramar will be an excellent resource for West Berkshire, services such as these mean that individuals need not spend prolonged periods in hospital and means they can continue their recovery in a very supportive environment. Response absolutely believes that individuals with mental health issues need safe and secure accommodation in order to enhance their recovery journey
