Sport and Health
We all know that physical activity plays a huge part in how we feel and the positive impact of this is even more pronounced when living with a mental illness. The personal outcomes, ‘feeling better’ and a sense of achievement are all key. It’s widely believed that engaging in sport and activity significantly enhances the efficacy medical and therapeutic interventions, leading to faster and more effective recovery.
That’s why our Coasters’ service provides a broad range of regular, well-structured and easily accessible activities ranging from football to badminton and from rock-climbing to countryside day walks. These dynamic activities are suitable for any level of participant and specific emphasis is placed on making people feel at ease and welcome.
In the last year, nearly 300 people engaged with our Sport and Health activities, enjoying over 3,310 hours of positive activity. And Coasters’ don’t just stay in the UK – they’ve recently taken representatives to compete in mental health sports events in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Germany, France, Slovakia, Spain and Italy.
For those who fancy a longer active break, Coasters’ also arrange an annual two week Coast to Coast Walk across the North of England in which this year over 60 people took part.
